The ninth of twelve children, Maria was raised in a devoutly Catholic family which fostered her deep connection with God at an early age. Her mother, a woman of strong faith, was instrumental to young Rossello's spiritual formation.

At the tender age of thirteen, Maria’s father died, leaving the family in financial hardship.
